I just LOVE the word GENERALIZING

Generalizing means to bring into general use.

In 1-1 tutoring, I love to help tutors and my students to find ways to make skills and strategies come into general use.

There are three ways we do this:

1. Name the skills and strategies we teach. This helps students to recall them and to use them when completing the task.
2. Post the skills and strategies in line of sight for the student to reference. And/or review the skills and strategies at the start of each lesson.
3. Practice using the skills and strategies WITHIN the work they are doing.
