Dear Fellow Mothers, and all those who have embarked on this wild ride called motherhood!
As Mother’s Day rolls around, I can’t help but reflect on what being a mom in 2024 means to me, especially considering the unique journey each of us walks. It’s like we’re all handed this puzzle with no instructions, and we’re expected to figure it out as we go along. But you know what? That’s the beauty of it, and why Evolved is such an important company for Mothers in 2024.Â
I’m particularly proud of the journey I’ve taken as a mother, and people often ask me about my experience. So, let me share a bit of it with you.
Growing up as the oldest of four girls, I was naturally put into the caregiving role. I spent countless hours playing school and secretary in my grandmother’s basement, navigating between imaginary worlds and real-life responsibilities. That early experience laid the groundwork for what was to come.
Fast forward to my teenage years, and I found myself drawn to activities that involved teaching and nurturing. At 13, I was already teaching swimming at the local YMCA, setting the stage for my future career as an educator.
I taught during my training at NYU and was employed by the NYC DOE, Independent Schools and Higher Education Institutions.
Eighteen years ago, the urge to become a mother hit me. And let me tell you, the journey hasn’t been a walk in the park. My oldest is about to turn 17, and our entry into this world was nothing short of dramatic. Emergency c-section, sleepless nights, and a crash course in setting boundaries and sleep schedules—it was a whirlwind. It hasn’t stopped as I’ve added two more children to my family and each has allowed me to go on a unique learning journey.Â
But you know what they say, necessity is the mother of invention. And boy, did I invent some solutions along the way. From navigating special education services to juggling a myriad of extracurricular activities, I’ve learned to be resourceful and resilient.Â
And let’s not forget about co-parenting. It’s a dance that requires patience, communication, and a whole lot of love. My husband and I have stumbled, tripped, and sometimes fallen flat on our faces, but we always get back up, hand in hand.
Through it all, my journey as a mother has influenced every aspect of my life, including my career. As the founder of Evolved Education Company, I’ve made it my mission to not only support mothers with education but also to create a work environment that empowers them to thrive.
Over the past five years, we’ve supported the maternity leaves of three of our employees, because let’s face it, being a mom is a full-time job in itself. And I’ve learned that there’s no need to apologize for bringing our children into meetings or prioritizing their needs.
At Evolved, we walk the walk alongside our clients, embracing the chaos, evolving, and learning every step of the way. So here’s to all the moms out there—past, present, and future. You’re doing an amazing job, even on the days when it feels like you’re barely keeping it together.
Happy Mother’s Day, and remember, you’re not alone on this journey. We’re all in it together. I celebrate your learning journey and the pursuit of our children to learn and live well!
