Preview a Course

Your middle or high school student works with a perfectly matched Evolved tutor in order to preview their course. 

Typically, students will preview math or science courses, but we also provide previews for heavy reading courses such as World History and Literature.

Our tutoring programs are customized to provide assessment, instruction that matches the school curriculum, and a connection with a trusted adult who champions your child to ensure engagement.

Materials and weekly homework are provided.

Kindergarten through High School

SRSD Writing and The Writing Revolution

Teachers trained in SRSD Writing and The Writing Revolution assess and teach the key routines in this effective writing program.  

Students in kindergarten through high school benefit from SRSD writing as it teaches process, organization, mechanics, and various genres of writing. Students who take this program can apply its technique within all writing programs at school.

Benefits of this summer program include:

Assess your writing. 
SRSD writing instructors provide a pre-assessment to determine your child’s current writing knowledge and functioning.
 
Study exemplars.
Students examine various genres of exemplars, which are models of writing. In this way they understand the goal of various forms of writing communication.

Learn SRSD Writing Routines.
Students learn and experience the routines which include the writing process, metacognitive reflective practices, self-regulation, revising and editing as well as reflection and goal setting.

Write. 
Students spend a great deal of time engaging in the practice of writing. They write for enjoyment and purpose.

Middle • High • College

Transitions: Academic Coaching

This series of lessons prepare your child and family for important educational transitions. With a customized approach, the intake serves to guide the lessons, and an accountability plan supports students as they move through the transition. 

 

As students begin middle school, high school or college, they will meet new demands and responsibilities. This summer program partners with students and their families to (1) clearly identify those new circumstances, (2) assess current skills for students and family, (3) teach students and families lagging skills, (4) meet with students and families as the transition takes place to ensure skills are used and assimilated into the new environment – tweaks and adaptations may be created.

Your EEC tutor does a deep dive into the curriculum, schedule, activities, and requirements.

Determine the new school’s requirements for students.
Your EEC tutor lists the skills your child will use within the new program.

Assess your child’s skills.
A list of skills to teach will be created through assessment.

Prepare for the transition as a family.
Your whole family will learn new skills and tools to bring into this new school setting.

Executive Function Coaching

Your middle or high school student works with a perfectly matched Evolved tutor in order to build executive functioning skills.

Students will begin this program with a teacher-created assessment that both parents and students complete. Following this, students will prioritize with the coach the areas of executive functioning to improve. Students will learn the skills within the context of summer academic work. They will record the tools and when school begins they will be held accountable to use the tools independently in a set of circumstances.

Benefits of this summer program include:

Assess your child’s current executive functioning and the tools they currently use.
We inventory their functioning through various perspectives.

Students in this program will take a Mindprint Assessment.
Students will learn about their cognitive functioning.

Focus on key executive functioning skills within the context of work.
Your child will build skills within the context of their academic work.

Build accountability for using skills and tools independently. 
Knowing how is only one aspect of the success of this program. The other is to use what you know.

Kindergarten through Fourth Grade

Elementary School Skills

Certified Elementary School Educators work with students either in-home or online to maintain and build key academic skills.  

Students in kindergarten through grade four will regress without consistent time on task within their reading, writing, and mathematical skills. This program engages students and creates an organization around the routine of practice all summer long. With a 1-1 partnership, parents can completely outsource this important work to a highly qualified Evolved tutor.

Certified elementary school educators assess your child’s current reading, writing, and mathematics levels.
 
Curated practice.
Students engage in “just the right level and fit” of academic practice. Their tutor organizes this practice to ensure full student engagement.

Avoid “the summer slide.” 
Students who spend time on academic skills in the summer avoid regression and begin the school year with confidence and less anxiety than those students who do not engage with academics in the summer.

Computer Coding and Technical Projects

This series of lessons work in partnership with your child to create a technical project. Through app creation, video editing, or other technical medium, students create a vision for their project, learn the skills to complete it, and publish it for sale or use. 

 

Summer is the perfect time to create a technical project. Under the guidance of an Evolved tutor, students create a vision for their project. Then, the skill acquisition begins as they build. The ultimate goal is to publish the project in some form.

Your EEC tutor provides the structure and lessons needed for your child to conceptualize and actualize a technical project.

Build technical skills.
Through coding, video editing, and graphic design, students create their own set of skills within a highly customized and motivating environment.

Work both with a tutor and independently.
Students use lesson time to organize the project and learn key skills. Independent work time is organized. Students learn how to use their time to complete the project.

Publish a technical project this summer. 
Your child will have a tangible project created which they can use as part of their resume and portfolio.

MIddle • High • College

Pre-Application Boot Camp

Who am I? What do I offer a school? What do I want in this next placement? How do I learn? How does my brain work? What are my strengths? What are my areas of challenge and how do I overcome them? What activities do I do? Why do I do them? What community am I in? Do I want to explore new communities? What choices am I making? What do I want to decide to do? 

Middle School, High School, and College Applicants will need to know the answers to these questions as they apply to schools this fall. This program partners with students to uncover the self – which is exactly what needs to be fully understood for a successful application process.

Benefits of this summer program include:

A trusted relationship is formed to help your child safely dig deep into explorations of themselves.

Students will learn about their cognitive functioning.

Ripple Journal.
Your child will build skills within this journal from One Trusted Adult.

College Applicants

College Essay Writing

Writing Specialists work with students to craft a compelling, one-of-a-kind essay that highlights your child’s application to their best-fit college or university. 

Students engage in this work from various starting points. Sometimes, they come to the lessons already having a topic to write about. Other times, they need to develop an idea. With careful attention to the craft of writing, writing specialists help students to produce a polished, effective piece that delivers their message to the admissions office.

Summer Reading Completion

With guidance and structure, summer reading can be completed over time and with proper attention to strong reading comprehension skills and practices. 

 

Summer is the perfect time to engage in required summer reading. By working with an Evolved tutor, students map this out, engage in reading comprehension lessons, and enter the school year with a solid understanding of the required texts.

MIddle • High • College

The Art of Songwriting

An Evolved tutor/professional songwriter works with your child to help them learn to write their own original songs. Through fun creative prompts, listening activities, and learning the fundamentals of lyrics, melodies, and chord progressions, students learn to write and record original music, which they can then publish online.

Summer is a perfect time to develop a craft. Under the guidance of an Evolved tutor/professional songwriter, students learn to write songs and refine their writing practice. As they write, they learn to express themselves creatively and gain confidence in sharing their unique voice. The ultimate goal is to publish their music in some form. It is recommended that students have some background playing a musical instrument, ideally piano or guitar.

By learning to write, complete, and perform their own original songs, your child will develop self-confidence and trust in their unique voice.

Fourth Grade through College

Creative Writing

Through this series of lessons, your child will develop their skills to articulate themselves through the written word. An Evolved tutor will support your child in learning techniques to write short stories, poems, memoirs, and creative non-fiction essays. As part of this process, your child will develop skills as a writer and reader. They will be exposed to an array of high-quality texts and fun prompts for breaking through writer’s block. Through completion of these lessons, students will have a writing portfolio they can share with family and friends; older students could also submit material to publications, workshops, or higher education programs.  

Summer is the perfect time to hone a skill. Under the guidance of an Evolved tutor, students learn to express themselves through the written word with greater precision. Skill acquisition begins as they write. The ultimate goal is to create a portfolio of written material.

By learning to write and complete their own stories, poems, and essays, your child will develop self-confidence and trust in what they have to say while also becoming less precious about the writing process.

Students use lesson time to learn key writing skills, receive constructive feedback, engage in fun creative writing exercises, and discuss texts. Independent work time is organized. Students are held accountable for completing the assignments and writing and revising on a schedule.

Build a writing portfolio this summer.

Your child will have their own creative writing portfolio which they can include as part of their resume and portfolio for writing contests, writing workshops, or higher education admissions.

Students can create their own course to achieve a project of their design.
