PUBLICATION
Hello! I’m Mary Miele, Learning Specialist and Education Consultant. I’ve just finished reading about the fact that our teens and young adults benefit from engaging in exploration of areas of interest among their peers. I am being a part of the solution to a problem – a lack of space for teens to develop, explore and execute on areas of interest and inquiry. I am providing a space this summer for students to come together to engage in meaningful learning experiences.
This July, I’m launching a four-week studio for upper classmen high school (rising Juniors or Seniors) and college students to:
Brainstorm Areas of Interest
Together, we’ll explore personal passions—whether in the arts, technology, social impact, or entrepreneurship.Create a Project
Students will define a concrete project that aligns with their interests and strengths.Execute with Support
Twice a week, in-person sessions (Mondays and Thursdays) at 157 East 86th Street, 4th Floor, will combine hands-on workshops, peer feedback, and one-on-one coaching.Build a Peer Network
Participants learn to collaborate, present ideas, and develop real-world skills in speaking, technology use, and project management—tools that are highly valued by colleges and employers alike.
This work will help teens and young adults to find their spark (an area of curiosity) and create a fire (a project & network).

Why This Matters
When teens move through the world primarily as Achievers or Passengers—or when their Resister tendencies isolate them—they miss critical opportunities to develop agency, resilience, and a sense of purpose. By gathering in a studio environment, they reclaim ownership over their learning and build the kind of self-directed drive that carries them successfully into college and beyond. We want students to be engaged in the Explorer Mode that Rebecca Winthrop outlines in her latest book: https://www.thedisengagedteen.com/
